O Tabuleiro

Stop 81

Traditional Portuguese (400m 4 min walk). Cafe/bar at front, restaurant behind. A warm welcome, excellent home style cooking, lovely wines and attractive prices. We like this place - LOTS - and so do our visitors.

Piri - Piri

Authentic traditional Portuguese cuisine. Family recipes perfected over decades served in a restaurant with a special ambience. Excellent food, attractive prices & freindly service. Highly recommended.

Well recommended restaurant by visitors, locals and us! Just off the square in the centre of Tomar. Great food, great wine, great host, great location & great value for money. Just great really!

Restaurant & cafe/bar close by - no need to drive.

At Casa Ceres, we set you up for the day with a great breakfast.

For lunch & dinner, we encourage you to visit our Portuguese friends running neighbouring restaurants, cafe/bars, shops etc.  In our village, in Tomar itself, and further afield.  Sample their excellent value offerings, their genuine warm hospitality and get a taste of the "Real Portugal"  you came here for;  you will not be disappointed.

As at home, spending money with local family businesses is not just good for the environment; it builds, nourishes and sustains whole communities.

And we want this community to be here, still healthy and vibrant, when your children want to visit....   Muito obrigado!.....(Many thanks!)

An important request

Some of our favourites in the city itself - there are many more.

O Infante

On the edge of the old town, Offers some wonderful regional cooking. Tagines are quite special.

On the main square in the old town, An amazing medieval themed restaurant. Friendly staff and good prices. Eat wild boar, game pies and drink by candlelight! Best to book as it can get busy.

Portuguese Food

Portuguese food is not fast. It's generally cooked to order with fresh produce. The likelyhood is that the vegetables and fruit have grown in the fields around the town, the eggs have come from a relatives hen house, the speciality cheeses from goats in a nearby village or region. "Food miles" are measured in metres here.

Other quite special places we are very happy to recommend

Something different. A mouthwatering menu with dishes from India, Goa, Angola, Cape Verde & Brazil. Coupled with a wonderfully decorated dining room and impecable but friendly service. Highly recommended (20 mins drive) In Vila Nova da Barquinha.

Recanto da Barquina

A perfect lakeside setting with great views. The excellent food, service, and whole experience have been highly praised by our friends, guests and many trip advisor reveiws. (20 mins drive) A little more expensive maybe.

Sabor da Pedra

Just off the praca, tucked away in a lovely courtyard. Great food, well priced & friendly service. Recommended!

An excellent and unique place to eat and take in the simply fantastic views of the Lago Azul near Tomar. Eat outside on the balcony or high rooftop terrace if not too windy or keep warm inside and enjoy the views through full glass walls. 28 min drive, but worth it, especially as the road goes over the top of the dam at Castelo do Bode.
