The House of Ceres
We chose the name in reference to the Roman Goddess of grain, agriculture and harvest.
She also appears to be the original Roman deity behind the amazing Feast of Trays in Tomar.
For us, this is simply a "harvest" of our endeavours over the years to achieve this dream.
"We were family of 5, renting 2 rooms for 1 night. We had very positive experience. Casa rooms were clean, spacious and had everything we need including shampoo etc. Kate and her husband were caring, kind, welcoming and friendly. We had fresh and delicious breakfast. Location is in the suburbs but with an easy access to highway. If you stay here you will wake up with birds singing and fresh air clearing your lungs. Kate gave us recommendation for the local restaurant where we had a pleasant dinner off tourist menu. We would highly recommend this casa if you are looking for unique experience and warm hosts. If we in the area again we would not hesitate staying here. Thanks guys!"
"Perfect place to stay"
What was good? "Absolutely everything!! From a welcoming drink to a delicious breakfast, Kevin and Kate were the best hosts. The bedroom was equipped with everything you could think of. The bed was very comfortable with really nice linens. They spent a lot of time thinking about what they wanted to make this an upscale property and their time and effort show. We had a delightful dinner with them at a local restaurant. Parking was easy." What was not so good? " The fact that we could only spend one night!"
A family house in the peaceful countryside near Tomar. Ideal if you wish to relax in quite place. Absolutely clean and tidy. Big en-suite double bedroom with big balcony overlooking the countryside. Shared sitting room and veranda downstairs The English hosts are welcoming and helpful. You can tell they enjoy what they do. We were the only guests that night but they prepared a huge selection for breakfast. They also suggested places for dinner. Wi-Fi available. Really worth it. I would go again.
“Lovely B & B with exceptional hosts”
"This is a lovely B & B in the historic (Knights Templar fans take note) town of Tomar in Central Portugal. The true charm though lies in its engaging hosts Kevin & Kate. These ex-patriot Brits do everything possible to make guests feel completely comfortable and thoroughly at home in this wonderfully picturesque town with its deep historical roots. Kevin and Kate make sure that guests see, hear and taste all the town and it's environs have to offer visitors. One could not possibly find a better tour guide for Tomar than Kevin; he is a veritable store house of knowledge of the rich history of the town and Central Portugal. Those with an interest in the Knights of Christ in Portugal and their genesis in the Knights Templar will certainly not be disappointed in Kevin's recounting of tales from the past."
“A real Home from Home. Fantastic welcoming hosts. Clean and comfy rooms. Loads to see and do.”
"We've just reluctantly returned from staying at Casa Ceres for a 4 night break, and we already want to go back... It's been one of the most relaxing and enjoyable breaks we've had, and we try to take fairly regular long weekends away.
To start with, our hosts Kevin and Kate made sure that we knew what to expect when we arrived at the Airport in Lisbon, and exactly how to get to the place, either by train or car (equally easy). Then when we arrived we were made very welcome and felt completely at home after settling in. Having moved to Portugal from the UK, they have made a real effort to get to know their neighbours and the local community, and so were able to give us good, reliable recommendations of things to do, places to see and to eat. They are also excellent sources of information on the local history.
Our room was spacious and clean, with a really comfy bed, and it stayed nice and cool even on the hottest days (which reached nearly 30C even in November). Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and delicious meats, cheeses, bread and fruits.. There's a lovely sunny veranda where you can sit and have your coffee, and maybe wave at or chat to friendly local people going by...
Tomar is a fascinating historical town, claiming the origins of the Knigts Templar, and Knights of Christ. The Convento de Cristo, or Castle, the Praça da República and the 7km long Aqueduct of Pegões, built (taking 30 years!) to transport water to the Castle in the 16th Century, are just a few of the many things to appreciate. The bars in the Praça da República offer a lovely relaxing place to sit and have a beer and watch the people go by. There's a bustling market on a Friday, and a beautiful river running through the town, with many more things to see and to in the town and surrounding area.
There always seems to be plenty going on. We timed our visit to co-incide with the annual horse fair at Golega which we found out about from the "Events" tab on Casa Ceres website. Have a look there and you'll see there's loads of things happening... Forget the beach and head inland to Tomar for a fabulous holiday. We'll definitely be going back."
"Fantastic B&B in a lovely location just up the road from the beautiful medieval town of Tomar. Kate and Kevin simply couldn't do enough for you, they are hugely knowledgeable about the area and recommended some amazing things to see and stunning restaurants.Breakfast was great with a huge selection of fresh food to keep you going for the day. Immaculately kept big rooms with comfortable beds, a really relaxing spot and you can't beat the local wine either! We will be going back!!!"

"Excellent B&B accommodation"
Large well decorated room furnished with a balcony. The bathroom was also large with an excellent shower, plenty of hot water and shower soap and shampoo were provided. The bed was very comfortable. Great breakfast with a good choice of cereals, bread, cheese ham, jam etc. Kevin and Kate gave us lots of information about the local area and the best places to visit which made our two day stay in Tomar very enjoyable. This was excellent B&B accommodation and we would definitely stay here again.
"Damn Good Coffee!"
We had an amazing stay at Casa Ceres and Tomar. The town is very friendly and not so overcrowded with tourists. Kevin and Katie are very kind and friendly. Kevin gave as great tips of the local restaurants (the one we choose was amazing by the way - very big portions by cheap price). Katie prepared such an amazing breakfast with a "damn good coffee" as agent Dale Cooper said and I have a picky taste. The room is cozy and very warm. I'm very happy I've chosen Casa Ceres and hope I would be able to come back!
Very nice hosts. Very friendly. Very helpful with useful tips about restaurants and places to visit. Family room with bathroom hidden behind closet door like in the movie 'Chronicles of Narnia. Very nice porch where you can drink some of the local wines.
